DOCAM Seminar (DOCAM / Daniel Langlois Foundation)

DOCAM is an international research alliance on the documentation and the conservation of the media arts heritage. The DOCAM Seminar is primarily designed for students working towards a Masters degree or Ph.D. in visual and media arts, art history, art conservation, communications or museology. The main objective of the Seminar is to train emerging artistic, museological and academic professionals. The Seminar will allow for in-depth reflection on theoretical, aesthetic, ethical, historical and practical approaches leading to the elaboration of a discipline that to date has too often been misunderstood or pigeon-holed due to a lack of theoretical tools and practical solutions to problems that are not even close to being resolved.

Master 'Film Studies', with 'Film Archive' option (University of East Anglia)

This is a variant of the established Film and Television MA, introduced in the early 1990s in response to demand from within the film archive world for a course of training that would combine practical and critical elements. UEA was the ideal place for this because of the presence on campus of the pioneering regional set-up, the East Anglian Film Archive, and because of our established MA programme with its strong film and television history component. Students take two of the Film and Television modules plus two specialist modules of archival training, produce a compilation videotape, and undertake a one-month archival placement. Please note that, because of the intensive hands-on nature of the course, places on this option are limited, and competition for them is especially strong.

Master 'Konservierung Neuer Medien und Digitaler Information' (State Academy of Fine Arts Stuttgart)

Students can learn the possibilities of long term preservation of analogue and digital photographs, video recordings and digital archival cultural heritage in a two-year, graduate (M.A.) program. Through coordination of the Academy's own resources, international visiting experts and cooperation with leading international institutions, the Academy will create a knowledge pool. Here the future "Conservators for New Media and Digital Information (M.A.)" will not only acquire technological insight, but they will also use real-world projects at partner institutions in Germany and elsewhere, in order to prepare for their highbrow field of activity. Already during their studies, students will practice interdisciplinarity, internationality and communication to specialists – something the State Academy of Fine Arts Stuttgart considers a prerequisite for successful problem solving strategies and a crucial skill required for the tight job market in the preservation field.
